Obituary for Nancy Eileen "Miss Eileen" Monroe

Monroe, Nancy Eileen “Miss Eileen”- of Luttrell passed away peacefully into God’s presence Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Miss Eileen graduated from Horace Maynard High School and Carson Newman College. She went on to have a distinguished career in the teaching profession. She taught fifty-seven years in Union County Schools and was honored by the State of Tennessee in 1991 as the educator with the longest, unbroken record in the classroom. She was respected and loved by fellow educators and former students. Her devotion to church and church activities were a large part of her life and she was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and directed Bible Schools for most of her adult life. Miss Eileen is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. R. S. Monroe; sisters, Leah Wolfe, Vauda Lee Needham; and niece Janice Vestal. She is survived by her family whom she loved dearly. Sister, Otha Needham; nephews, Michael Needham and Gregory Needham; nieces, Donna Christopher, Shirlene Booker, Lana Needham and Kim Presley; and many great nephews and nieces who enriched her life. The family wishes to express thanks to her caregivers, Johnie McCurry, Robin Webber and Kathy Cupp for their loving care. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel in Maynardville. The funeral service will immediately follow at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend David Nicley officiating. Family and friends will meet at Skaggs Cemetery Sunday, April 13, 2014 for a 1:00 p.m. interment.
