Obituary for Hoke Lee Mynatt Jr.

Hoke Lee “Porky” Mynatt, Jr. – age 78 of Knoxville, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born October 18, 1945 to Attorney Hoke Lee Mynatt, Sr. and Grace Delana Barnett Mynatt. Hoke graduated from Houston Independent School district. In 1972 he graduated from Davidson Police Academy and went to work for the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. Hoke left the department in 1985. Upon moving to Houston, TX that same year he eventually went to work for Wackenhut Security Company where he worked in several positions including as a U. S. Marshall and Private Detective. He retired from the workforce in 1988. In 1964 in Brookshire, TX he met Mary Lorainne Gregory. They were married in 1966 at Pattison United Methodist Church. They have two daughters, Laura Ann and Janet Lee.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hoke, Sr. and Grace Mynatt; brothers, Preston John “Jack” Mynatt and Harold “Bud” Mynatt; sisters, Joan Mynatt, Teenie Ward, Marion Bullard and Jean Evelyn Mynatt; and most of all his beloved wife, Mary Gregory Mynatt. Hoke is survived by his daughters, Laura (Brian) Reynolds and Janet (Edward) McNanee; grandchildren, Caleb (Leeann) Reynolds, Reverend Mary Grace Reynolds and Bruce and Zacharie McNanee; great grandchildren, Kaylee Anna and Noah Scott Reynolds; sister, Betty M. Goins; plus many nieces and nephews that he loved very much. The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the following people, Cheryl Foster whose love and friendship as a nurse, cared for both Hoke and Mary during their years of illness, Amedysis Hospice and the many caregivers who helped us through a difficult time and lessoned Hoke’s suffering, Jennifer McCoy, James DuBose and Ejhara Clark with Clinch River Home Health who guided us through the last days with overwhelming mercy and benevolence and made sure daddy passed with dignity and respect, family members, Betty Goins, Candi Pollard and Michelle George who sat many hours and gave help and comfort.

The will family will receive friends 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 16, 2024 in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel in Maynardville. The funeral service to follow with Dr. Todd Stinnett officiating. Immediately following the service family and friends will proceed to Mynatt Cemetery for a graveside service.
