Obituary for Joy Corum (Richardson)

Corum, Joy Richardson- age 72, born June 22 1948, passed away March 1, 2021 suddenly during an extended illness. Preceded in death by husband of 40 years, Richard Edgar Corum, infant daughter, Mary Ruth Corum. Maternal grandparents C.H. (Charlie) and Roma Jessee Laws. Paternal grandparents Luther and Susie Sexton Richardson. Parents Willie Edgar (Bill) and Louise Laws Richardson, Mother and Father-in-law Edna (Booker) and Edgar Corum. Nephew, Todd Richardson.

Joy was a graduate of Powell High School, Class of 1966. She retired from a 20 year career at K-25 National Lab in Oak Ridge. At the time of her death, she worked at Pat Murphy Electric, which she enjoyed very much. Joy was creative and talented. She enjoyed cooking and crafting, and used those skills for years by catering and making floral arrangements for weddings. Joy worked hard all her life, but her most loved job was being a mother. She was a member of both New Friendship Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church, and enjoyed worshiping with her church family. Joy loved spending time with friends and family and her strength, warmth, and generosity left a mark on all of those who were close to her. She will be greatly missed.

Joy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cherish (Corum) and Frank Appling. Brother, Rudy Richardson and wife, Libby (Williams). Sister, Lorie (Richardson) and husband Hal Thurman. Sister-in-law and brother-in law, Pam (Corum) and Ron Hembree. Nieces and Nephews, Kenny Richardson, April Richardson and John Clark, Kash and Kambrye Clark, Camden Richardson, Chad and Catherine Hembree, Zach Hembree, Lori Corum Beeler. Joy leaves behind many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who she considered to be family.

The family would like to thank Kyle and Ann Richardson, and Robert and Doris Dukes for their devoted friendship and care for Joy over her last several years. Also, special thanks to Fresenius Dialysis Clinic, and the medical team at Tennova North.

Drop-by viewing hours will be held at Trinity Funeral Home, Maynardville on Friday March 5th, 12:00 - 6:00pm. A graveside burial service will be held Saturday March 6th, 3:00pm Oakland Cemetery, Little Valley Road, Maynardville. Rev. Leonard Goin and Rev. Tim Inklebarger will be officiating. Pallbearers: Frank Appling, Hal Thurman, Kenny Richardson, Robert Dukes, Jim Greene, and Jason Kitts. Honorary pallbearers: Kyle Richardson, Von Richardson, Don Richardson, Rudy Richardson, Lynn Sexton, and Fred Simmons.
