Melvin G. Cox, Sr - age 81 of Maynardville, TN, passed away peacefully at UT hospital on Monday, June 22, 2015 from a terminal illness he was battling. Born in Payette, Idaho on 6/9/34 to Lawarence D. Cox and Stella M. Cox, Melvin was a brave, strong, and original man. As a younger man, he joined the Air Force and served in between the Korean and Vietnam wars. The majority of his life was spent in a saw mill or driving a truck, which he loved. He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lucille A. Cox; his son, Melvin G. Cox, Jr., and several brothers and sisters. Survived by his grandchildren, Robbie and Melissa DeRosier, Ameri and Larry Hiter, Melanie and Jimmy Staley, Patrick Cox and Mikkah Powers, Max and Erin Cox, Cody and Jennifer Wood; and by his great-grandchildren, Keith Jones, Samantha DeRosier, Autumn Staley, Rieli Cox, Makenzie Staley, Haven Cox, Kelsey Hiter, Courtney Hiter, Britney Hiter, Caleb Hiter, Madison Strange, and Cimmaron Wood. And also survived by his one remaining sibling, Faye Yantis and daughters-in-law, Dr. Patricia B. Cox of Knoxville and Diane Wood of Grants, NM.
