Obituary for Aetna Kathleen Graves (George)

Aetna Kathleen  Graves (George)
Graves, Kathleen George - age 85 of Maynardville, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015. Ms. Graves was a member of Millers Chapel United Methodist Church where she served as pianist. Her family was a part of the “last round-up” in the Loyston Community. A graduate with her Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee with honors, Ms. Graves began her teaching career at Arevalo School but was best known as “The Librarian” at Horace Maynard High School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a published author of Union County history, yearbook and beta club sponsor. After retirement, Ms. Graves was named Union County’s Business and Professional Woman of the Year, Union County’s Outstanding Woman of the Year, served on the library board, and volunteered as an adult education teacher. With numerous accomplishments and accolades, she was most proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ms. Graves is preceded in death by husband, Roy V. Graves, Sr.; father and mother, Berney and Bronis George; sister, Barbara (Bob) George; brothers, Max George and Bill George. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Vaughn and Gail Graves; daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Jimmy Carter; grandchildren, Jared and wife Shannon Graves, Ryan and wife Melody Graves, Carmen and husband Roger Murphy, G. W. and wife Cheree Rutherford, Ashley and husband Jason Fuller; great grandchildren, Saylar, Dawson, Cade, Cooper, Noah, Isaiah, Luke Kaiden, Walker and Emily; sisters-in-law, Sue George and Phyllis George; and brother, Jim and wife Judy George. The family would like to acknowledge Ms. Graves special card playing ladies at Halls Senior Center. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Burney Hutchison, Reverend Bryan Wheble and Reverend Ken Luton officiating. Eulogy by David Coppock and Dwain Burke. Pallbearers are G. W. Rutherford, Jason Fuller, Roger Murphy, Dawson Epperson, Noah Scates, Jared Graves, Ryan Graves and Gary Beason; honorary pallbearers are Isaiah Scates, Kaiden Paul, Walker Graves, Luke Graves, Cade Murphy, Mark George, Stacy George, Gary Rutherford and Cooper Fuller. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. interment.
