Obituary for Winston Falon Dickey Sr.

Dickey, Winston F. Sr. – age 97, of Luttrell passed away peacefully at his son’s home July 27, 2013 surrounded by his family. Fiercely independent, he remained mobile until the last month despite deteriorating joints. He was born May 24, 1916 to the late Garner and Mabel (Adkins) Dickey in Covington, Tennessee with the doctor recording his birth as May 25th, he had the joy of celebrating his birthday either way. He served his country during World War II as a military policeman at Fort Bragg and as a medic on the seventy-fifth hospital train. A Memphis resident since age 5, he was a body shop mechanic and supervisor. In retirement he repaired wheelchairs and scooters for the civilian aid program of the Paralyzed Veterans Association. This he felt, was the most rewarding work of his life. He could use his God given mechanical talents to help others. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy Anne (Baxter) Dickey; son, Winston F. Dickey, Jr. and Connie; grandson, Martin Dickey all of Luttrell. Services will be held at the church he cherished, Independent Presbyterian Church in Memphis. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Memphis. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Rutherford Memorial United Methodist Church, 7815 Corryton Rd., Corryton, Tennessee 37721.
