Obituary for Donald Douglas Dobbs

Dobbs, Donald Douglas, born March 10, 1943 of Maynardville, passed away November 29, 2013 at Physician’s Regional Medical Center. Donald accepted Christ at an early age and loved and was devoted to his church, the Church of God of Maynardville. Donald loved life, his family and enjoyed the outdoors such as snow and water skiing, 4-wheeling, motorcycling, camping, hunting, fishing and doing projects around the house. He also loved to draw. Donald was an educator for 42 years. He was a 1965 LMU graduate with a BS in Math and Physics. He first worked as a Jacksboro High School math teacher then transferred to Claiborne County High School to teach math and physics. Donald earned his Masters of Mathematics in 1972 from the University of Tennessee. He earned over 100 hours above his Masters and was a published author of the piece, “Power of Two Trick”, included in the “Arithmetic Teacher”. In 1977, Donald moved to the position of principal at Tazewell-New Tazewell Primary School for two years. From 1979- 2002 Donald held various Title 1 and Mathematics Supervisor positions at the Central Office. He spent the last five years of his career as Director of Schools for Claiborne County. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Axie Dobbs of Tazewell; brothers, Westal Fergerson and Laverne (Bill) Fergerson; sisters, Ruth Fergerson Longworth, Vonsetta (Josephine) Fergerson Crook and Shirley Fergerson Sesan all of Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Hopson Dobbs; daughters, Rhonda (Allen) Epperson of New Tazewell and Renea (Brian) Anderson of Maynardville; grandsons, Parker (Rebecca) Epperson of New Tazewell and Tyler Anderson of Maynardville; one great grandchild, Elijah Epperson; brother, Lawrence (Dawn) Fergerson; sisters, Ruby Fergerson and Beulah Pitcher of Michigan. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Scott Inklebarger. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 1, 2013 in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service to immediately follow at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Charles McClure and Reverend Joey Hopson officiating. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m., December 2, 2013 in Big Barren Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hugh Kitts, Buddy Smith, Jack Davis, Ronnie Hopson, Jr., Cody Kitts and Stacy Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Russell and Eugene Russell.
